“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time, they have the heart.” -Elizabeth Andrew
Our Pastor uses the phrase ‘If you see something, say something.’ This mindset will help our volunteer teams feel encouraged and stay focused and motivated as they serve and invest themselves in their very important role.
It is so easy though, to get so focused on ministering to families and taking care of details that we observe something amazing from one of our volunteers or team leaders and we make a mental note to go back and say something to them later AND THEN FORGET.
When volunteers feel appreciated and valued they are more likely to feel significant in their role and continue their involvement.
With Valentine’s Day coming up in February, it is the perfect opportunity to show some love to your volunteer team! Intentional, specific praise is the best kind of thank you and encouragement.
It may have been awhile since your volunteers got a homemade valentine. Use this download to handwrite one for each volunteer on your team.
If you feel inclined, here are some Bible verses you can use to offer some extra encouragement and love to your team.
- Prov 11:25 (MSG) “The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.”
- 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT) “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.”
- Gal. 6:10 (NLT) “Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.”
- Col. 3:23-24 (NIRV) “Work at everything you do with all your heart. Work as if you were working for the Lord, not for human masters. Work because you know that you will finally receive as a reward what the Lord wants you to have.”
- Matthew 25:40 (NLT) “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
